Discover Research and Innovation at UB

At ÌÇÐÄlogo, research isn’t limited to the lab — and it's never reserved for graduate students alone. Whether you’re an undergrad exploring a passion project, a doctoral student breaking new ground, or part of a team competing on local or national stages, hands-on experiential learning is at the heart of the UB experience.

Our students lead, collaborate, innovate, and create across disciplines — guided by expert faculty who bring real-world experience into every classroom, lab, and maker space.

Ready to make your mark?

Each spring, the UB community comes together for UB RISE, a dynamic showcase of student and faculty research, innovation, scholarship, and entrepreneurship. UB RISE celebrates the bold ideas and hands-on work that define the UB experience, from poster presentations and prototypes to business pitches and live demos.

Why UB for research and experiential learning?

  • Start early: Many students dive into research as early as their first year
  • Learn by doing: Work side-by-side with faculty on meaningful projects that make a real impact
  • Collaborate across fields: From robotics and biomedical engineering to business innovation and healthcare, UB’s interdisciplinary approach opens new and exciting doors
  • Present and compete: Share your work at events like UB RISE — our annual conference featuring Research, Innovation, Scholarship, and Entrepreneurship — as well with scientific journals and at conferences at both the local and national level
I’ve always been interested in cybersecurity and emerging technologies. When I started learning about quantum computing, I was fascinated by how it could completely change how we handle data. I also noticed there wasn't much research on how digital forensics would work in a quantum environment. That gap sparked my curiosity. I wanted to explore how investigators could recover data without destroying it, since in quantum systems, just looking at the data can change it. After some initial reading and discussions with my advisor, Dr. Khaled Elleithy, I realized this was a unique and important challenge worth tackling.

UB, especially the department of Engineering and Computer Science, has supported me by providing opportunities to present my research at conferences and publish my work in scientific journals, helping me make an impact in my field. Internal events such as UB RISE offer students the chance to engage with and learn about the diverse research being conducted at UB.
